If you live near East Brainerd Road, this one's close to home. Hamilton County commissioners weighed a rezoning request Wednesday that would let developer March Adams build an indoor sports complex, then delayed the vote until Nov. 18. The property would change from agricultural to commercial use.

The proposed sports complex would be about 50,000 square feet

The proposal is an early test of , the county's new growth plan. Staff and the Planning Commission recommended denial in May, but the application came in before commissioners adopted the plan, so it could be considered under the previous rules. Commissioner Lee Helton said Oct. 28 he's now favorable, citing more positive feedback than negative.

“It's not about no growth. It's not about not building homes, but it's about doing so responsibly.”

Commissioner Jeff Eversole
  • Courts: three tennis, four pickleball and one basketball
  • Neighbors' concerns: traffic, growth and long-term impact
  • Site: steep, with woods kept along the road
  • Support: coaches of nearby schools, per East Hamilton principal Brent Eller
